The user carried out an overhaul project for its No. 1 and No. 2 coke ovens.
The project required smart valve positioners for the double-acting butterfly valves used to regulate the coke oven gas supply. A total of 172 units were installed at the site.
The coke oven gas control system required reliable and accurate valve positioning to maintain stable gas flow during plant operation.
For enhanced operational safety, the valves also needed a fail-freeze function in the event of an interruption to the air supply, power supply, or control signal. The positioners had to operate reliably with the existing double-acting butterfly valves.
POWERFLOW supplied 172 smart valve positioners for the coke oven gas control valves.
The positioners were installed on double-acting butterfly valves and configured to provide fail-freeze protection in the event of air, power, or signal loss. This solution enabled accurate valve positioning while meeting the operating and safety requirements of the coke oven gas supply system.
The 172 smart valve positioners were commissioned in November 2022.
Initial operation and testing were completed successfully, and no after-sales issues were reported during the initial operating period. The solution provided reliable control for the plant’s coke oven gas supply valves.
